Blast from the past? – Here’s why Chelsea must set up a January return for this versatile 29-year-old out on loan

Why the return of Victor Moses isn’t a bad option for Chelsea in January

Victor Moses’ move to Fenerbahce hasn’t been all that great for the Nigerian.

The Chelsea star joined the Turkish giants on an 18-month loan deal but has only made 17 appearances so far.

Moses was one of the stars for the Blues when they lifted the Premier League in 2017 and a move to Turkey could have reignited his career.

However, the 28-year-old wants a January return to Stamford Bridge and Fanatik claims that Frank Lampard is open to Moses coming home (h/t Sun).

Moses spent several years at Chelsea, but also had stints at Liverpool, Wigan, Stoke and West Ham.

The Nigerian might not be the most talented player that Chelsea have on their books, but he can slot into several positions.

The 28-year-old is capable of playing in the midfield or out wide, and can also take up the role of a wing-back, something that Lampard has used this season.

Moses knows the club well, and Lampard seems to be getting the best out of the players he has at the club.

The Nigerian wouldn’t cost Chelsea a lot, since he is only away on loan, and he might not flout the transfer ban the Blues have at the moment.

Lampard might find it difficult to strengthen the side in the winter window, and Moses could be a smart acquisition.

Moses would provide cover for the likes of Pedro, Willian, Mason Mount and the struggling Christian Pulisic too.

Chelsea need to keep a fit squad as they push for a top-four finish, and the return of Moses shouldn’t be dismissed at the moment.

Verdict

The Nigerian might not be playing at the highest level at the moment, but if anyone can get him back on track, it has to be Lampard.

The Englishman has done a wonderful job in his first Premier League season, and Chelsea might have found the right man for the future.
