Liverpool signing this 64-goal star for just £7.75m would be nothing but daylight robbery

Why Takumi Minamino would be a bargain buy for Liverpool

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are set to sign Red Bull Salzburg star Takumi Minamino in January.

Minamino, 24 came through the ranks of Cerezo Osaka’s youth system in his home town. He then made a move to Salzburg in the winter of 2015. Since then, he has made 199 appearances for the Austrian outfit and in the process, has scored 64 goals and assisted 44 times.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the midfielder, according to Paul Joyce of The Times. The highly-rated midfielder was impressive against the Reds in both their group matches and has gained Klopp’s attention.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have not strengthened their squad with any senior players in the summer and by going after Minamino, they would make a great deal.

If Klopp sanctions Rhian Brewster’s loan in January, the Reds would be left with very few attacking options. Their forwards – Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have been doing well so far without a break.

Divock Origi is the only player from the bench who has made an impact whenever needed, whereas Xherdan Shaqiri has been a victim of injuries. Though Liverpool have enough players to control their midfield, they must not back away from signing Minamino.

The 24-year-old’s versatility can be of good use to the team. He can play on either flank and also has adjusted himself in an advanced midfield role. This season, he has already scored 9 times, including the one in Salzburg’s 4-3 loss to Liverpool earlier.

The Japanese international might be the right player to bolster Liverpool’s attacking options, as the Champions League winners are pushing for Premier League glory.

Going into the tougher festive period, Klopp would have to improve the depth in his squad and Minamino is no less than a complete player.

According to Whoscored, Minamino has registered 2.8 shots, 2 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in the Champions League this season. These numbers can improve if the Reds take him on board in January. He has shown enough abilities that can take him to a higher level.

Verdict

If Liverpool manage to sign him for £7.75m, which is his release clause, the Reds would bag an absolute steal. Though he may not get his chances to start, it is quite clear that he is capable of making a difference from the bench.

And in a few years’ time, Minamino could be the player to lead their attack. Therefore, Klopp must do enough to persuade the Japanese sensation, who is also attracting interest from several Bundesliga clubs, according to Daily Mail.
