Why Swansea Must Make Andy King’s Loan Move A Permanent One
As per a report from BBC, Swansea City are weighing up a move to sign Leicester City midfielder Andy King on a permanent basis this summer. The 29-year-old moved to the Wales outfit in January this year and has played a pivotal role for them ever since.
Swans were in poor form for a good majority of the season which eventually led to the sacking of Paul Clement. However, new manager Carlos Carvalhal has made a positive impact at the club and King has been instrumental in their success as well.
Placed 14th in the Premier League standings, Swansea are one point ahead of the relegation zone. If they manage to survive in the top-flight by the end of the season, the club will make an attempt to sign King permanently, as reported by The Mirror.
King is a Leicester City fan favourite, having spent more than a decade with the Foxes. After coming through the academy ranks, the midfielder transformed into a first-team regular and has been crucial for them through several ups and downs in the League One, Championship and the Premier League. However, due to a significant lack of starting opportunities in recent times, the club decided to loan him out in the January transfer window.
Claude Puel currently has a plethora of midfield options at the King Power Stadium. The likes of Matty James, Adrien Silva, Vincente Iborra, Wilfred Ndidi and Daniel Amartey are all available for the Leicester manager to choose from and hence, it might be better for the club to free up the wage bill and allow King to join Swansea permanently.
Although his contract runs until 2020, this could be a good opportunity for Leicester to raise some funds to strengthen other areas.
As far as Carvalhal’s men are concerned, they could most certainly make use of a player like King if they stay up in the Premier League.
In 3 appearances for the club, he has already scored a goal and his experience can play a vital role for Swansea in the seasons to come. Their midfield is rather threadbare at the moment, with Renato Sanches’ loan deal coming to an end and Ki Sung-yueng’s contract set to expire this summer.
Furthermore, Leroy Fer is unlikely to return from his unfortunate knee injury anytime soon, thus providing more reasons for Swansea to cement a deal for King this summer.
