Why Swansea City should sign Liverpool starlet Curtis Jones on loan

According to Goal (h/t the Wales Online), Swansea City are keen on a deal for Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones in January. They have made enquiries with regards to taking the Reds midfielder on loan.

Curtis Jones, 18, is Liverpool’s under-23 captain and has actually made three first-team appearances during the 2019/20 campaign. He made his Premier League debut in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth earlier this month and is currently with the Liverpool squad in Qatar for the Club World Cup.

Playing regular first-team football is the next step for Jones and a temporary loan move to Swansea could be perfect for him.

Steve Cooper’s Swansea have had a decent campaign so far, with the Welsh outfit currently sitting 10th in the Championship table. Cooper has done a good job at the Liberty Stadium since replacing Graham Potter, considering he had lost two key players of last campaign — Oli McBurnie and Daniel James.

Swansea were sitting at the top of the Championship table heading into the first international break of the campaign. However, complacency has ruined the Swans’ excellent start to the season.

In order to achieve promotion this time around, Cooper needs to make a couple of additions during the January transfer window. One of the areas he should address is the midfield, with the Swans desperately needing goals from those behind the front four. That’s when Curtis Jones could be of great help for the Welsh club.

Standing at 6ft 1ins and blessed with the physique and in-game intelligence of a player that belies his age, Jones already looks more than ready for the demands of senior football.

He impressed against MK Dons in the EFL Cup and scored the winner in the penalty shootout against Arsenal during a fourth-round thriller at Anfield.

And with 13 goals in just 18 games for Liverpool’s reserves, including a stunning UEFA Youth League hat-trick against Napoli, the teenager can make a massive impact in the final third for Cooper’s side.

Jones has showcased during his four first-team outings that he has the quality but needs to find regular football somewhere else, as Klopp has a plethora of midfield options at his disposal.

Verdict

Thus, Jones moving to Swansea on loan seems to be the perfect fit. Swansea need more quality in the final third and Liverpool wants their exciting prospect to be playing first-team football.
