Tottenham making a summer move for this talented Premier League ace would be a real coup by Pochettino

Tottenham Opinion: Would Philip Billing be a good signing for Spurs?

Huddersfield Town defied the odds to beat the drop in the Premier League last season but it hasn’t been anything like a fairy-tale campaign for the Terriers this term. They currently languish at the bottom of the Premier League table, 14 points adrift of safety.

Without the charismatic presence of their former manager David Wagner, who managed to keep the club in the top-flight last season with his managerial acumen, the Terriers need nothing short of a miracle to survive relegation this time around.

Huddersfield have been well below par with their performances this term but former Danish U21 midfielder Philip Billing has been one of the few shining lights in what has been a hugely disappointing campaign for the Terriers.

Billing has caught the eye with his consistently impressive performances in central midfield, scoring twice from 23 appearances in the Premier League.

Signed from Danish club Esbjerg back in 2013, the 22-year-old has racked up a total of 86 appearances for the Terriers across all competitions, accumulating 6 goals and 2 assists.

Known as a hard-tackling all-action midfielder, Billing is comfortable in central and defensive roles in the middle of the park. The Dane has impressed with his drive, determination and work rate in the midfield, often acting as a sweeper for the back four.

Calm and comfortable in possession, he has a good range of passing, which allows him to spread out the play and dictate the tempo of the game from a deep position.

Billing is quite strong and often uses his physicality to good effect, whilst his aerial ability is certainly an added advantage. Adept at dispossessing the opposition and winning the ball back for his team with tackles and interceptions, he is also a very good distance shooter who never hesitates to put his foot through the ball.

To put things into perspective, Billing has shown enough promise to earn a move to a bigger club and Tottenham Hotspur should line him up as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele in the summer.

The Lilywhites parted ways with their long-trusted servant, with the Belgian moving to China in January.

Although Spurs still have the young duo of Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp as options in central midfield, they should invest in another quality defensive midfielder.

Victor Wanyama has struggled for form and fitness since the start of the season and Billing, with his height, physicality and well-rounded attributes, he certainly fits the bill for Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino should look to add more depth to his squad next summer, having failed to bring in any fresh faces for two consecutive transfer windows. And it is a no-brainer for Tottenham to strike gold by getting their hands on the highly-rated Dane ahead of the upcoming season.
