Manchester City Opinion: Guardiola wants Ndombele – a good buy?

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Lyon midfield destroyer Tanguy Ndombele has been a subject of heavy interest from the Premier League. While Manchester United and Juventus are also said to be keen, he is wanted by Manchester City as a possible long-term successor of the ageing Fernandinho.

Manchester City have transformed from a mid-table side into European superpowers in a matter of a decade. While this did include some difficult periods of time and some failed transfers, overall, they can call the operation a massive success.

Apart from the Champions League, which is probably pushing it to begin with, they have won everything else. They even won the Premier League in such dramatic fashion last season, with none of the teams even close to their level.

They have built an amazing squad and under the able guidance of a manager as experienced as Pep Guardiola, things are only going to get better from here on. They have completed some inspired signings over the last decade, some of whom have directly fuelled them to league titles.

One signing which has been crucial in the modern era for Manchester City was the addition of Brazilian midfield destroyer Fernandinho. He is now a Premier League veteran and has been with the side for a long time now. He has made 263 appearances for the Mancunian side and has even pitched in with 23 goals.

His contribution to the team is unmatched and finding a replacement for one of their best players is never going to be an easy task. But as it turns out, they might have found the ideal player to come in and take over from Fernandinho.

As suggested by the Daily Mail, Lyon’s young midfield anchor Tanguy Ndombele could be the player who Pep Guardiola has selected to be Fernandinho’s direct successor. He is a strong player who uses his physicality effectively on the pitch.

He is an amazing tackler of the ball and like Fernandinho, he reads and intercepts the ball extremely well. His movement in the midfield opens up spaces for assisting runners while he also pops up with the off goal when given the chance.

At just 22, he has the potential to be a superstar in the coming years. He made his debut for France in October 2018 and has featured 4 times for Les Bleus. He is certain to have a bright future but with the guidance of Guardiola, he could turn out to be the next Fernandinho.
