Why Signing This Bundesliga Sensation Will Be A Fantastic Piece Of Business By Tottenham

Christian Pulisic

Why Christian Pulisic Will Be A Good Signing For Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley seems to have hit a snag. The North Londoners are unwilling to match the Toffees’ hefty transfer fee demands, while they are also baulking at the player’s wage demands.

As per reports from the Mirror, Barkley is demanding £150,000 per week wages, which would make him the highest paid player at the club ahead of Golden Boot winner Harry Kane and captain Hugo Lloris. The report also claimed that Spurs see Barkley’s value around the £15million mark, which is a long way off Everton’s £50million valuation. However, those reports about Barkley’s wage demands were claimed as ‘untrue’ by Sky Sports.

Nevertheless, with such huge roadblocks in the deal, Tottenham have decided to turn their attention towards Borussia Dortmund attacker Christian Pulisic (Mirror).

The 18-year old is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the game and he displayed just why, last season with the German outfit. Pulisic finished the campaign with a tally of 5 goals and 13 assists from 43 games in all competitions, emerging as one of the most impressive players for Dortmund.

Also a full international with the United States, Pulisic has represented the US Men’s National Team on 16 occasions, scoring 7 goals and is widely heralded as the finest player from the country in recent times.

Able to play in any position in the attack, either on the flanks or centrally behind a striker, Pulisic is at his best down the right-hand side. Technically gifted, the 18-year old has the pace and the dribbling abilities to breeze past opponents and possesses a keen eye for a pass. With his low centre of gravity, he can maneuver himself out of tight spaces with the ball at his feet.

The USMNT international adds great fluidity to the attacking play in the final third and because he is good with both his feet, he can cause serious damage from both the flanks. One more important aspect of his play is that he is not averse to putting in the hard yards defensively – something that is a must for any player playing in Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham team.

Spurs have had a fairly silent summer till date. While they do have a well settled unit, Pochettino will know he will need to reinforce his bench if his team are to go a step further and win some trophies next season.

It is no secret that Pochettino has been chasing a wide player for over a year now. They brought in the likes of Clinton N’Jie, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko into the fold, but none of them managed to make a significant impact.

Bringing in a young wide player with immense potential like Pulisic will only be positive for Spurs. The 18-year old has proven himself at Dortmund and on the international scenes and if one takes a look at Pochettino’s body of work with youngsters – Dele Alli and Eric Dier the prime examples, then he will only take Pulisic’s game to a whole new level.

The attacker signed a new contract only in January this year, and still has three years left on the deal. It is unlikely that he will come in on the cheap for Spurs. But considering his age, amazing levels of potential and undeniable talent, Pulisic will definitely be a good piece of business, for now and for the future.
