Why Signing This Arsenal Star Would Be A Waste Of Time For Manchester United

Aaron Ramsey

Wales qualified for the Round of 16 as Group Leaders ahead of England after a solid 3-0 win against Russia and Aaron Ramsey had a big role to play. He’s looked solid on the field so far and was even impressive in the defeat to England when Bale was largely anonymous. With Jose Mourinho taking charge of Manchester United and looking to shake things around, rumours have been flying around about his supposed interest in Ramsey. However, with Carrick extending his contract, Rooney looking settled in midfield and already the likes of Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Herrera in the squad, will Ramsey really find a place in the XI?

At the end of the 2013-14 season, Aaron Ramsey was named as Arsenal Player of the Season and it looked like he had finally arrived. However, two years on and he has been unable to reproduce that kind of form. As Arsenal’s title challenge fell apart yet again, Ramsey looked listless and out of place for majority of the season. The fact that he was constantly moved from position to position throughout the season didn’t help him. No one quite knew how he would perform as the EURO began and most hoped his form wouldn’t be as shocking as his new choice of hair.

After three matches, he has not disappointed Arsenal and Wales fans. He’s been terrific. He’s looked confident and brilliant on the ball. Along with creating 8 chances, he’s provided 2 assists as well. Playing higher up the field has helped him as well. For someone who can cut a frustrating figure at times, his work rate has been very good. Positional stability has helped him as well and Wales’ manager Chris Coleman also mentioned how Ramsey understands his responsibilities and has really stepped up. Looking at recent performances, Ramsey could prove to be a very important player for Arsenal next season, which might persuade Wenger to call off the deal, if an offer does ever come.

The British media has been circulating a figure of around £50 million which is far too much. United need a wide player or a striker to bring some creativity. Their most pressing need of course was that of a centre back and they responded by signing Eric Bailly. The signing of Bailly also frees up Daley blind to be available to play in the midfield.

Signing Ramsey might lead to celebration among the fans, but it certainly isn’t the need of the hour. United have far to many pressing issue to deal with right now in the other areas of the field, that spending so much money on Ramsey might seem like an indulgence which could have been done without, having already wasted so much money on stars who tanked during their time at United in the post SAF period.
