Why Sandro Tonali could be an excellent signing for Manchester United
Back in October 2019, the Sun had claimed that Manchester United sent scouts to watch Brescia star Sandro Tonali in action against Fiorentina.
Sandro Tonali, 19, has been in fantastic form this season, starting each of his side’s 18 Serie A fixtures. Operating at the base of Brescia’s midfield three, the teenager has impressed with his performances, despite the fact that his team currently sit in the relegation places.
Having excited everyone with his performances in Brescia’s midfield this term, Manchester United must rekindle their interest in Tonali this month.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen midfielder Scott McTominay suffer a knee injury that will keep him out for a few months while teammate Paul Pogba has just undergone ankle surgery. This has left United extremely short of options in the middle of the park, with Fred and Nemanja Matic forced to play every game.
The Red Devils made a mistake by not replacing Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera before the start of the season and that decision has come back to bite Solskjaer now.
It is clear that reinforcements in the midfield are the need of the hour and the United board must act quickly to get at least a couple of new players on board.
In that regard, Sandro Tonali would be an excellent fit at Old Trafford. Tonali broke into the Brescia first-team in the 2017/18 season and played a pivotal role last season in his side’s promotion to Serie A. He has taken his game to the next level this term and is already a full Italy international.
Operating from a deep-lying playmaker’s position, the Italian youngster controls the game with his passing and tackling skills. He is extremely composed on the ball, can carry the ball well and initiate attacks with his range of passing.
Tonali has the vision to unlock a rigid defence with a decisive pass in the final third, whilst he puts in a tireless shift defensively for the benefit of his team.
The Brescia star can certainly make an impact for United whilst strengthening their midfield in a different way following McTominay’s injury.
In the video below, one could get a glimpse of Tonali’s style of play and the qualities he could bring to Old Trafford if a move goes through.

Tonali is a generational talent who has the potential to become a world-class player in his position. He will not only add a lot of quality to Solskjaer’s midfield but will also increase competition for places within the Reds squad.
A player of such massive potential cannot be let go of by Solskjaer and he must do everything possible to get Tonali’s signature this month.
