Barcelona signing this teenage superstar ahead of Real Madrid would send a statement

Why Sancho to Barcelona would be a match made in heaven

According to The Times (h/t Daily Star), Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is being chased by Spanish giants Barcelona.

Sancho, one of the hottest stars in Europe at the moment, had raised a few eyebrows with his remarkable displays for German side Borussia Dortmund in recent times.

The 19-year-old had a breakthrough season last year, scoring 13 goals and assisting 19 times in 43 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.

His noteworthy performances had attracted a lot of top clubs in Europe, with the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester United also in line to pursue the teenager’s signature, according to Times (h/t Daily Star).

However, Sancho made his intentions clear, by stating that he would rather prefer a move to Spain than England, the Times (h/t Daily Star) report added.

For someone as talented as him, nothing short of a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid or Barcelona could prove to be ideal.

Meanwhile, Barcelona and Real Madrid are continuing their unmitigated dominance in the Spanish top-flight, as they have done for the past few years.

After an early Champions League exit and a trophyless campaign last year, Madrid were quick to react to the dismal situation by spilling some cash in the summer window.

They brought in star winger Eden Hazard, forward Luka Jovic, left-back Ferland Mendy, and youngsters Eder Militao and Rodrygo among many others.

They now have a full squad filled with 26 players and have spent more than €300m only on signings, which is clearly a lot of money.

Hence, it seems unnecessary that Real are interested in the young Sancho, who is currently one of the top players in Europe and one that would definitely cost them a lot.

Barcelona, meanwhile, should take note of this and cash in on the teenager, as they did not spend as big as their Spanish counterparts this past summer.

Barcelona made just two major signings in Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong.

Barring these two, the rest of the players who arrived were not high-profile names, and it wouldn’t do a club of Barca’s stature a major damage if they go for a big-money signing such as Sancho.

The Catalonia side at present has 23 members in its senior squad and Sancho would definitely be a worthy addition.

Moreover, Barca have just two proper wingers – Ousmane Dembele and reserve team player Carles Perez.

Dembele, who arrived at Barca in 2017, has had a difficult time adjusting, with persistent injuries keeping him on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Perez lacks enough game experience.

Though Griezmann can play as a winger, it is not his favoured position as it has been clear from his average displays for the Catalonians in recent times.

Ansu Fati is another player who could be deployed on the wing, however, he is too young and is only a future prospect. Hence, rushing him into the first-team squad might do them no good.

Taking all of this into consideration, Barcelona should make a move for Sancho, who has 6 goals and 9 assists from 18 matches across all competitions this season.

Verdict

With Dembele clearly spending more time on the sidelines than on the pitch, and the rest yet to prove their potential, Barcelona definitely need an established winger like Sancho.

All said and done, Sancho to Barcelona would be a match made in heaven, with the player himself voicing his desires of playing in Spain.
