Back in December 2016, The Guardian had claimed Crystal Palace were interested in signing Levante striker Roger Marti. However, a deal didn’t go through.
A youth product of the Valencia academy, Roger Marti, 28, joined Levante back in 2011. The Spanish forward, who has had loan spells at Zaragoza and Valladolid over the last few years, really came into the fore last season for Levante. He scored 13 goals in 31 appearances as Levante finished 15th in the La Liga table.
The 28-year-old has started the new campaign well and has three goals in nine league appearances so far. Given Roger Marti’s exploits in front of goal for Levante in the last couple of years, Crystal Palace must reignite their interest in him in January.
Once again, Crystal Palace have failed to score goals sufficiently and the lack of goals will be deeply concerning for manager Roy Hodgson. A new striker should be top of his wishlist with the January transfer window now just more than two months away.
Palace have a few strikers in their ranks, with the likes of Jordan Ayew, Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham, with Ayew being the most impressive of the trio.
Wilfried Zaha, who apparently has been carrying the Eagles for the last few seasons, is yet to break his duck this season. The Ivorian’s future was under a lot of speculation in the summer, but in the end a move away from Palace didn’t materialise.
Whether or not he stays at the end of the January transfer window remains to be seen, but Zaha certainly needs a forward who can carry some of the goalscoring burden. In that regard, Roger Marti would be a good fit at Selhurst Park.
Marti is a solid goalscorer who has pace, energy, and a hunger to go up and down the pitch and score key goals.
The Spaniard is aggressive on the pitch and takes excellent positions inside the box to score goals. He likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender, run down the channels and make unpredictable movement in the final third.
The 28-year-old showed last season he can score goals if provided with the right amount of service. Alongside Zaha and Townsend in the attack, Marti would be able to take his game to the next level and score even more.
Marti could be a very good signing for Palace in January and is a player that could fit in very well in the hustle and bustle of the Premier League.
