Why Rob Holding needs to make his PL return against Manchester United
Rob Holding had a return he could only have dreamed of as he scored a goal in a 5-0 romp of Nottingham Forrest in the League cup. The English centre-back had been out since December after suffering a long-term injury due to ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
The game was at Old Trafford against Manchester United and fate has seen be ready just in time to make a Premier League return in the very same fixture this season.
Holding was in phenomenal form before the injury took place as he combined with Sokratis Papastathopoulos to form a fine centre-back partnership.
They were at the heart of the backline when Arsenal went on a 17-match unbeaten run in all competitions and the Gunners and Unai Emery will be hoping that he can go back to doing the same for Arsenal as fixtures come thick and fast.
The 24-year-old was signed in the 2016/17 season and was an absolute bargain and one Arsene Wenger’s final signings and a constant reminder of the great manager’s legacy as he always had a great eye for young talent.
Holding is very comfortable on the ball and also a very good reader of the game, which is why he’d form a fine partnership with more aggressive defenders like those that Arsenal currently have in their roster.
Arsenal have conceded far too many goals since the start of the season and it hasn’t looked like Unai Emery’s found a way to organize the defence and he’ll have to depend on personel as his midfield isn’t very defensively sound either.
If he compromises his attack, he doesn’t have the creativity and a target-man to back upon to change tactics and he has to look at attack as the best form of defence till he can get better defenders into the side.

The game at Old Trafford is massive for both sides as there’s a lot riding on both managers. Manchester United are currently quite wounded and a big game is just the type of fixture that could get their players up and running.
They’ll also have the likes of Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba back in the side, which is a scary proposition for any side in the Premier League. They’ll need Rob Holding more than ever in a game like this.
