Liverpool signing this immensely talented 17-year-old would be a great futuristic move

Why Ricky-Jade Jones would be a good signing for Liverpool

A report from Daily Mail suggests that Liverpool are on the hunt for Peterborough United’s teenager Ricky-Jade Jones.

Along with Liverpool, many other English clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City, and Leicester City are also keeping tabs on the exciting youngster. The report also suggests that Southampton and Burnley watched Jones make him make his league debut at the weekend.

The 17-year-old came through the ranks of Peterborough’s youth team and has made an impact in the 4 games he has played for the club’s senior team. In the process, he scored on his full debut against Cambridge and against Stevenage, which was his first FA Cup appearance.

Peterborough had already received an offer of £2m for the midfielder from Tottenham but rejected it as they value him above that. They are known to produce young talents and have received a significant fee for their attacking talents earlier in the likes of Dwight Gayle, Connor Washington, Jack Marriott and many more.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, who are in the race for his signing, have been performing well under Jurgen Klopp for the past two seasons. Though they have an array of options in the midfield, signing Ricky-Jade Jones could pay off well for them.

With Jordan Henderson and James Milner in the twilight of their careers, Jones can be a useful addition for the team given his impressive performances in League One and the FA cup.

Naturally a midfielder, Jones can also play out wide in the forward line. He has also shown that he can score goals whenever necessary, as he has done for Peterborough in just 4 appearances.

Liverpool can make use of the youngster for their reserve teams as it would be difficult for him to get into the senior team right from the start. Jones can develop himself within the club and turn out to be the Reds’ game-changer in a few years’ time.

Just like the other youngster, Rhian Brewster, the 17-year-old can become a lethal attacker if he takes huge strides in the development process.

Liverpool would also have another option of sending him out on loan to lower league clubs should they decide he needs more game time.

With other Premier League clubs also scouting the youngster, there is no doubt that he is very promising. His potential has garnered attraction from the top-flight, which is a good sign.
