Why Real Madrid must forget signing world-class Manchester United star and look for alternatives

David De Gea’s move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 didn’t materialise because of a fax machine failure at the last minute. The £200,000-a-week Spanish goalkeeper stayed put at Manchester United and left Real Madrid red-faced. However, De Gea has been time and again linked with a move to Los Blancos, and this summer is no different.

Real Madrid haven’t got much to complain regarding their present number one between the sticks – Keylor Navas. Los Blancos have won the Champions League three times on the trot, in addition to winning one La Liga title in the last three years, and Navas has been instrumental in this run.

But Real Madrid are reportedly on the lookout for a new goalkeeper as the Spanish giants have highlighted the position to upgrade for their new manager, who will succeed Zinedine Zidane

If Real Madrid does indeed decide to go for a new goalkeeper in the summer, they shouldn’t look at De Gea. An alternative approach could help them get a custodian, who can stand between the sticks at the Bernabeu for the years to come.

De Gea’s staying put

Right after the end of the whole fax-machine saga, De Gea signed a fresh five-year contract to stay at Old Trafford and become better and better with each passing year. United’s faith in him has helped the Spain international to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

He managed 22 clean sheets in 46 games in all competitions for the Red Devils last season as he won the Premier League Golden Glove award.

De Gea is considered a star at Manchester United, but he could lose his star status if he moves to Real Madrid. Besides, Real Madrid are currently in a transition phase, following the departure of their manager Zidane. Hence, De Gea would want to remain at Manchester United and once again make them a force to reckon with under Jose Mourinho.

It has neem claimed that Real Madrid are looking elsewhere to bolster their goalkeeping department in the summer.

Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Atletico Madrid custodian Jan Oblak Roma star Alisson Becker are all on their radar. It seems Los Blancos are ready to move on from De Gea, which is sure to give Manchester United great relief.
