Real Madrid loaning out £62m struggling star would land them in real danger – here’s why

Why Real Madrid loaning out Jovic would not be a wise decision

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Real Madrid are considering loaning out new summer signing Luka Jovic in January.

The £62million striker, who was bought from German side Eintracht Frankfurt, has struggled for goals since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu last summer.

The Serbian youngster has managed just four starts this season and has found the back of the net only once from 12 appearances for the La Liga side.

With veteran striker Karim Benzema back in form and scoring goals for fun, Jovic has seen himself restricted to the bench this season. The French veteran has been in fine touch and is their leading goal-scorer with 11 league goals to his name.

Moreover, sitting on the sidelines seemed to have taken a toll on the Serbian, who was in sensational form at Frankfurt before making the switch to Spain.

He scored a whopping 27 goals from 48 games last season for the German side, thereby earning a move to Real Madrid. However, he has failed to live up to the expectation since leaving Germany.

That said, Real Madrid decision to loan out their young striker doesn’t seem right. The Zinedine Zidane-led side currently has one more striker – Mariano Diaz, apart from Benzema and Jovic.

However, Diaz seems to have fallen down the pecking order under the French coach, not having made a single appearance so far. This has left Zidane with just one option in Jovic, who is the back-up for Benzema.

Having scored the major share of Madrid’s 32 goals this season, Benzema has proven to be their go-to man this season. However, an injury or a dip in form for their star striker could change the whole scenario.

Madrid, at the moment, are a team in form, with just goal difference separating them from Barcelona. Moreover, with the rest of the Madrid’s attackers yet to click, loaning out Jovic at such a juncture could prove to be too costly.

It could be only a matter of time before the Serbian starts scoring once again. Blessed with excellent finishing and attacking abilities, it would be better if Zidane offers the young man more chances, especially in the cup competitions.

Verdict

Real Madrid clearly need a back-up striker for the 31-year-old Benzema, and nobody would be a better fit than the 21-year-old Jovic. Moreover, Zidane’s Madrid have been too reliant on Benzema this season as they seem to lack players who are as consistent as the Frenchman in front of the goal.

Hence, loaning out a potent striking option does not seem to be the wisest of decisions by Real Madrid.
