Why Rangers Should Complete A Loan Offer To Bring Back This £600,000 Wonderkid

Billy Gilmour

Rangers Must Bring Back Billy Gilmour For The Sake Of Good

Glasgow Rangers are facing the fact that they are set to lose wonder kid Billy Gilmour to Chelsea, despite making a last-ditch attempt to make him stay.

According to reports from The Express, a fee of £600,000 has been agreed for his transfer to the West London outfit when Gilmour turns 16, rather than risk him losing for a paltry compensation fee of £90,000 if they leave it to chance.

But the reports also suggest that the Gers are considering the possibility of asking the Blues to send the teen sensation back on loan to the Ibrox Stadium. The loan deal isn’t a part of the selling agreement, but the Rangers’ management believe that it could be an avenue they could explore.

Aged only 15, Gilmour has been attracting interest from many quarters. Having made his debut for the Under-20 team in December, he also trained with the first team in January. Gilmour has been tipped for a first-team debut for Rangers in the near future.

Poised and patient on the ball, Gilmour has shown the maturity that belies his age and shows great balance and presence of mind in the tightest of spaces. Someone who is on the scrawny side physically, Gilmour isn’t afraid to go into tackles and displays surprising strength when in possession.

Comfortable anywhere in the middle of the park, Gilmour possesses great technical ability and has the range of passing that allows him to sit in front of the back four and dictate the pace of the game. Capable of playing the long diagonals with surgical precision from deep, the 15-year old has shown that he can play the deftly threaded passes in more congested spaces as well.

Gilmour has the talent to make it to the top, and he has displayed that he has the mentality to keep working towards getting better as seen with his meteoric rise through the ranks with Rangers. The Gers not enjoying the best of the seasons on their return to the Scottish Premiership, as they find themselves in the third place, lagging behind their rivals Celtic by a whopping 33 points. In this scenario, the promise of Gilmour has been one of the few bright spots for the supporters of the club.

Chelsea have one of the most expansive youth set up in Europe and are known to ship promising youngsters out on loan to feeder clubs in Netherlands and the English Championship. As many as 38 players are out on loan from the Stamford Bridge this season. While there has been no recent history of them loaning out players to the Scottish Premiership, Rangers would be hoping to break that trend with Gilmour.

The Glasgow-based club have seen the potential of the young Scot and believe that he has the ability to perform on the bigger stages. They would want to get the best out of him at the Ibrox, given that he won’t be playing on the pitch for Chelsea first-team anytime soon.
