3 goals, 1 assist – Rangers signing this £5m upcoming African starlet would be outstanding

Why Rangers must take a gamble on Zamalek striker Mostafa Mohamed

According to Egyptian TV pundit Haytham Farouk (h/t Scottish Sun), Rangers scouted Zamalek striker Mostafa Mohamed earlier this year.

Mostafa Mohamed, 22, is the emerging star in Egyptian football, and after three loan spells away from Zamalek, he’s now impressing for their first team. He has three goals and an assist in 11 games across all competitions this season.

Farouk claims that Steven Gerrard has already sent members of Rangers staff to speak to Mohamed about a move, with the Glasgow club keen because of his displays in the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations last month, in which the striker scored four goals. (h/t the Scottish Sun)

Zamalek seems to rate Mohamed highly, and according to the club’s president, Mortada Mansour, the striker has received offers from France and Belgium before. Both were rejected as they rate him at £5million. (h/t the Scottish Sun)

Rangers, meanwhile, secured a comfortable win over 10-man Hibernian on Friday. Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Jermain Defoe all hit the net for Steven Gerrard’s side. The Gers seem keen to end Celtic’s domestic dominance and are also competing in the Europa League this season.

Gerrard has two impressive strikers in Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe. The two are prolific goalscorers who have mainly remained fit and available throughout the season. However, an injury to either Morelos or Defoe would leave Rangers in some trouble and that is something Gerrard needs to address.

As the Teddy Bears are competing on various fronts, it’s vital for them to beef up the squad in January. Going for a new striker would be wise and Gerrard should go for Mostafa Mohamed, who is one of African football’s most exciting young players.

Verdict

Mohamed, however, is yet to play outside of Egypt, meaning he’ll be a gamble for Rangers. But there’s no denying his talent and ability to find the back of the net and can improve his game under Gerrard, just like Morelos.

The Egyptian will bolster Rangers’ attacking options significantly heading into the second half of the Scottish Premiership campaign. He might turn out to be the player to help the Gers win the Premiership title.
