Why Rafa Benitez must not think twice about splashing €18m to sign this 15-goal Spanish starlet

According to reports, Valencia attacker Santi Mina could be available for a fee of €18m this summer. Over the last season or so, the 22-year-old has been one of the standout performers in La Liga.

In fact, he was instrumental in helping Valencia finish in the 4th spot last season. It is evident that the youngster is destined for bigger and better things, but could a move to the Premier League be on the cards?

The report states Napoli are trying to acquire his services but there is one English club, who could greatly benefit from his presence. Newcastle United fought hard to secure a 10th-place finish last season but now, they must strive to fulfil greater ambitions.

In their quest to fare better next season, a player like Mina could prove to be extremely resourceful. He clearly has a long way to go but should Rafa Benitez make the plunge and shell out €18m for him?

In 36 appearances across all competitions last season, Mina scored a total of 15 goals and provided 2 assists. He averaged 1.3 shots per game, while he had a decent pass success rate of 77.9%.

Over the course of the previous term, the youngster appeared primarily as a centre-forward for Valencia but if required, he can also play on either wing. Mina’s versatility could go on to provide an added boost to Newcastle’s frontline.

Despite being so young, Mina is a technically gifted player. His ability to read the game often leads to quick decision-making on the field and his influence in the final-third could truly revamp Newcastle’s attack.

When in possession, Mina is extremely calm and composed and his finishing skills are quite impressive. Furthermore, he often tracks back to link the midfield with the attack, making him a super versatile player.

The Magpies struggled to a great extent in front of goal last season and Benitez must do everything he can to ensure they do not face a similar situation in the upcoming campaign. It might be tough to beat Napoli to sign Mina but if they manage to pull it off, the deal will be nothing short of a coup.

The likes of Dwight Gayle, Joselu and Ayoze Perez have all failed to make an impact for Newcastle but perhaps Mina could be the solution to their woes. Thus, Benitez must go all out and splash the cash to sign the talented Spaniard this summer.
