According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer.
Paco Alcacer, 26, has netted 26 times in just 47 games since arriving at Borussia Dortmund, initially on loan from Barcelona in 2018. He impressed on a season-long loan spell at the Bundesliga club and they made his move permanent in February 2019.
The Spanish international has five goals in 11 league games so far this term, but after the arrival of Erling Braut Haaland from RB Salzburg, the striker wants to leave in January. (h/t Marca) Keeping that in mind, Tottenham must go for Alcacer this month.
Spurs’ top-four hopes have suffered a massive blow following skipper Harry Kane’s injury in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton, with the England striker set to be out until March with a torn hamstring. (h/t The Guardian)
Jose Mourinho’s side have six Premier League matches between now and the start of March, including home games against Manchester City and a visit to Chelsea.
The North Londoners don’t have an experienced like-for-like Kane replacement, even though the likes of Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min can play as a lone striker. Mourinho does have the 17-year-old striker, Troy Parrott, but he is too young to lead the attack week in and week out.
Meanwhile, Alcacer has been a prolific goalscorer since arriving at Dortmund. With six starts and five appearances from the bench, he has five league goals.
The 26-year-old made two Champions League appearances, just one was a start and contributed with one assist. Last season, the Spaniard scored 18 Bundesliga goals from 26 appearances.
The former Barcelona man is known for his smart movement, and he seems to be in the right place at the right time. His awareness and finishing skills are his standout assets.
Alcacer is more than just a penalty-box poacher as he is an expert from dead-ball situations as well. Given the playmakers at Spurs’ disposal, the Spaniard would be capable of bagging goals in the Premier League.
In the video below, one can get a glimpse of his deadly finishing skills and set-piece expertise.
Alcacer is the type of signing who will allow Tottenham to rest Kane more regularly when he is fit. He is well suited for rotation and would give Spurs a different dimension up top than Kane.
At the age of 26, the Spaniard is likely to embark upon the peak years of his career, meaning he’ll be a perfect signing for Mourinho.
