Chelsea signing this top-class Barcelona star would easily turn them into one of the best

Why Ousmane Dembele would be a top-class signing for Chelsea

The Express has confirmed that Chelsea have held talks with the agent of Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele as they are looking to strengthen their squad.

The Blues were banned from making any signings for two transfer windows by FIFA earlier, but the report now confirms that the court of arbitration for sports has halved their ban and Chelsea are free to sign players in January.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard had to turn towards the academy graduates for the majority of the season and the youngsters have done brilliantly so far.

Dembele, 22, has been one of their targets and they would be aiming to get him in the summer despite his injury woes.

The youngster came through the ranks of Stade Rennais’ youth system and made an impression in Europe during his time at Borussia Dortmund in 2016. After a year with the German outfit, Dembele made the big move to Barcelona.

The promising talent started his Barcelona career on a high note but injuries have hampered his career and he has failed to impress at the Catalan club. As a result of that, Barcelona are happy to listen to offers for him, according to the Express.

Though Dembele is an exciting player, many would not want to go for him due to his injury-prone nature, Chelsea look to be interested in the player. Given his quality, they can be assured of a top-class signing.

Lampard’s men are currently 3rd in the league standings but they have not been on par of late. They have won just 1 of their last 5 games in all competitions and look to be bearing the consequences of their ban as they have less depth in their squad.

Therefore, if they move for Dembele, he would make a great addition to the squad either in January or in the summer.

The Frenchman has a proven track record from his days at Dortmund. And at the moment, Chelsea don’t have an established left-winger. Callum Hudson-Odoi is their only option on the left but is inexperienced and has had his own injury issues of late.

Dembele is known for his two-footed nature. Predominantly a left-winger, he can also play on the right flank. His versatility has to noted as he is capable of working wonders as an attacking midfielder too.

At Dortmund, the 22-year-old was a constant threat along with Marco Reus, where he created goalscoring opportunities for his side, week in and week out. In his first two years as a footballer, Dembele left spectators speechless with his impressive displays.

At Chelsea, he would get along other youngsters at ease. Under the tutelage of Lampard, who has encouraged youngsters, Dembele can see his chances arrive at regular intervals. He would be the much-needed extra edge which Chelsea have lacked in their attacking ranks.

Dembele can be at full swing once he is free from injuries and this must make Lampard think about approaching the young star. He has also shown his abilities to be a game-changer.

Signing Ousmane Dembele would make Chelsea’s attacking ranks a force to reckon with and he can even go on to be their player for the future given his age.
