Norwich City going all out to sign this 23-year-old La Liga ace would shore up a key position

Why Norwich City should go all out to sign Villarreal’s Xavi Quintilla

According to the Sun (h/t The Pink Un), Norwich City are interested in signing Villarreal left-back Xavi Quintilla this month.

Xavi Quintilla, 23, who moved to Villarreal in 2017, has been a regular in La Liga so far this season, racking up two assists in 15 appearances.

The former Barcelona academy graduate is keen on a move to Norwich City, with Villarreal keen to cash in rather lose him for free at the end of the season, the report adds. (h/t The Pink Un)

Meanwhile, Norwich City have made their first signing of the January transfer window, bringing in Ondrej Duda from Hertha Berlin until the end of the season. Duda, 25, has not played for the German club since early December but scored 11 goals and had six assists in the Bundesliga last season.

The Canaries are eight points from safety at the bottom of the Premier League and recently endured a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Considering they have the worst defensive record in the division, with 45 goals conceded from 22 games, it is vital Daniel Farke shores up his defence as quickly as possible.

Adding a new left-back should make sense for the basement club following the recent loan exit of Philip Heise, who returned to the German second tier with Nuernberg after failing to break into Farke’s plans.

Sam Byram deputised at left-back since Jamal Lewis picked a minor knee injury and as Byram is primarily a right-back, however, signing a new left-back is important to compete and cover with Lewis.

Having said that, Xavi Quintilla would be a good fit at Carrow Road. A left-back by trade, Quintilla can also play in central defence when required.

He is an attacking left-back who’ll fit perfectly into Farke’s expansive, attractive football at Norwich City. The Spaniard is defensively strong as well in 1v1 situations and is improving in his position.

The matter of fact that he is just 23 should convince Norwich City’s hierarchy to go for him as early as possible.

Verdict

Quintilla has decent top-flight experience in Spain and would be the perfect player to compete with Lewis at left-back. Therefore, the Canaries must go ahead and secure his services as fast as possible.
