Why Newcastle United Over Tottenham Would Be A Better Destination For This £21.6m La Liga Star

Newcastle United or Tottenham Hotspur: Which is a better destination for Kevin Gameiro?

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have pretty different goals for their campaigns this season but both teams are expected to be busy in the January transfer market. Both teams are desperate to add to their strike force and are looking for players who can lead the line and add goals to their side for the rest of the season.

This has seen them get linked with a number of star players recently but one player who is wanted by both clubs is Atletico Madrid star Kevin Gameiro.

The 30-year old joined the capital city outfit just last summer but already has 15 goals in 38 outings for the side in the domestic league. However, he has made just three starts this season and could be sold for the right price in the January transfer window.

Known for his creativity in the final third, Gameiro is an excellent finisher, who can lead the attack of even the best sides in Europe. Smart with his movement in the final third, he averages 1.3 shots on target per game and has three goals and an assist this season in the La Liga.

He has just 0.3 key passes per game this season but averages 1.3 per game in the Champions League. With an average passing accuracy of around 78% in the last three seasons in Spain, he is not the best option available in the transfer market but is a player who is a good fit for the system at both English clubs.

Mauricio Pochettino is desperate for an attacker, who can act as a backup for Harry Kane, in tough games. He adds a different dimension to the Tottenham’s attack and his numbers are better than Fernando Llorente, the current backup for Kane in London.

At 30, his experience at the highest level could allow Spurs to finish off games and he could be the man to help them to their first trophy under their Argentine manager. However, they will have to compete with Newcastle United, who are sure to offer the French international a first-team place.

The likes of Joselu, Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez have been used to decent effect by Rafa Benitez this season but Gameiro is a decent upgrade on all those names and is a player who can completely transform the Magpies attack.

The £21.6m rated striker has better stats than two other players on that list and is a player Rafa will be eager to buy. He can definitely offer the 30-year old more game time but will not be able to offer him European football. But under Pochettino, Gameiro will never turn into the first choice and will struggle for chances constantly.

So if the Atletico Madrid man is desperate for game time, St James’ Park is his best destination.
