He returned to the Premier League 18 months later when he joined Crystal Palace, for whom he played over 100 games. Cabaye left Dubai based side Al Nasr in January, just 6 months after joining them, and is currently unemployed.
Having played over 500 senior games in his career, Cabaye will bring in tons of experience to the Newcastle midfield and his creativity could promote the Magpies to a higher finish than they would currently wish for.
A versatile midfielder, Cabaye is capable of playing anywhere in central midfield and would give Rafa Benitez a variety of options. The Frenchman will add goals to Newcastle and his vision could unleash the likes of Ayoze Perez and January signing Miguel Almiron in front of goal.
The 33-year-old is also a deadly set-piece taker and has the ability to score direct freekicks from improbable angles. His balls into the box are incredibly accurate and he would be an incredible asset for the Magpies given Solomon Rondon’s aerial ability.
Above all, Cabaye will bring leadership to a relatively young and inexperienced side, which could prove to be a boon come the end of the season.
