Why Newcastle should beat Celtic and Rangers to sign Reagan Thomson
According to the Daily Record, Newcastle United have contacted Scottish side Queen’s Park to secure the services of young starlet Reagan Thomson this January.
The young Scot is being watched in the on-going UEFA U17 Euro qualification as he provided two assists in their win against Iceland U17. Thomson has played eight games for Queen’s Park FC this term.
Newcastle United, though, are not the only club to have shown interest in the 15-year-old midfielder. He has gained the attention of Celtic and Rangers, who are interested in him after taking note of his services for Scotland U17.
Thomson moved from Queen’s Park FC’s U18 team to the first-team in August 2019. Given the club’s amateur status, they cannot command a transfer fee for the youngster but can proceed for compensation since he is a youth player (h/t daily record).
Thomson made his international debut against Armenia U17 in October 2019 and has played three matches, including the one in which they lost against Croatia. According to Daily Record, the player was being watched by the Magpies in the game against Croatia.
The 15-year-old has featured regularly for Queen’s U18 and the main team since his move from Park Villa BC in 2012. He has quickly made his transition from Queen’s U18 side to the main team.
Thomson may not be the hottest property in Europe yet, but he has got some talent to power the midfield in whichever team he plays in and Newcastle must reach an agreement for his service, which can be widely displayed in the future.
The teenager can be useful for both the youth teams and also the Newcastle main team when required. Being scouted at just the age of 15, Reagan Thomson sure brings in a lot of raw talent with him. Newcastle also have an option of sending him out on loan to other clubs in order for him to get game time.
However, not much is known about the teenager but his talent and potential have been noticed by his coaches.
Magpies boss Steve Bruce, with this in mind, must go all out and secure the signing of this young prodigy. They must sign him before Celtic or Rangers make a move.
