Why Newcastle over Fulham could be the ideal destination for this 11-goal African star

According to a report by Sky Sports, Fulham are interested in signing Swansea City attacker Jordan Ayew this summer. Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest in the Ghana international and it will be interesting to see which of these two Premier League sides succeed in acquiring his services.

Since Swansea suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, a mass exodus of sorts is expected at the Liberty Stadium. And Ayew seems to be the latest player to get linked with a possible exit from the Welsh club.

While Swansea endured a terrible campaign last season, Ayew was one of their better performers. In fact, he was their top scorer with a total of 11 goals in all competitions. The Ghanaian could truly work wonders if he joins a club where he would receive better service from midfield.

Jordan Ayew

To that end, both Fulham and Newcastle seem like good destinations for the 26-year-old. But if it were to come down to a choice between the two, which club should Ayew join?

To be fair, both teams could really utilise a player like him. Fulham fought tooth-and-nail to secure a promotion to the top-flight and now that they are here, it is imperative for them to ensure they preserve their status beyond next season.

And to do so, an experienced attacker like Ayew could prove to be resourceful. His versatility will come in handy for Slavisa Jokanovic, considering he can play anywhere across the front-three and even as an attacking midfielder.

It remains to be seen if Fulham are able to secure Aleksandar Mitrovic on a permanent deal but if they do, they must not push to sign the Swansea star.

Tammy Abraham and Jordan Ayew

Meanwhile, Newcastle could also benefit by signing a player of Ayew’s calibre. It goes without saying that they are in dire need of a new striker this summer. Having struggled to score goals last season, Rafa Benitez must strengthen his forces with a player such as Ayew, who proved to be successful even during Swansea’s disastrous 2017/18 campaign.

Christian Atsu struggled majorly with a slew of injuries and lack of form last season. As far as the strikers are concerned, the likes of Dwight Gayle, Joselu and Ayoze Perez failed to do much to impress.

Also, Islam Slimani’s arrival on loan from Leicester City in January was nothing short of a disappointment. Hence, the Magpies should look to sign a new striker in the summer.

It remains to be seen which of these two clubs succeed in their efforts to sign Ayew but the Ghanian would be a perfect addition for Newcastle.
