According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t The Sun), Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski could be on Everton’s radar if they appoint Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager – which the Toffees accomplished recently.
Zielinski is not new to Ancelotti, who was sacked by Napoli earlier this month after a string of poor results.
An ever-present presence in the Napoli midfield, Zielinski was favoured by the Italian. A modern central midfielder, Zielinski has seen his stock rise in recent times due to his regular role at the club, the report claims.
He was a key player under Ancelotti last season, featuring in 36 league games, scoring six goals and assisting twice for Napoli, thereby helping them finish second in the league behind winners Juventus.
After making his Serie A debut with Udinese, which also included a loan spell at Empoli, Zielinski finally completed his much-awaited move to Italy in the summer of 2016 and has been a stand-out performer ever since.
He took the Italian crowd by surprise with an eye-catching 5 goal and 6 assists from 36 matches in his debut season with the Naples-based outfit. Since then, the Polish international has gone on to play a total of 164 matches for the Italian side and has 21 goals and 10 assists to his credit.
Having witnessed his potential during his time at Napoli, it is no big wonder that the Toffees coach has him high up on his list of transfer targets. If Ancelotti can wrap up a deal for Zielinski, the midfielder’s arrival could change the course of events and potentially save them from relegation.
Also, with Everton’s midfield looking completely out of sorts, bringing in an established and consistent player like Zielinski would be of great help. With veteran midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson struggling for form this season, Zielinski’s arrival could be something to cherish for the Everton fans.
Meanwhile, Tom Davies still needs to prove his mettle and has not evolved into his full potential. Zielinski is a playmaker and can play in a box-to-box role, which makes him a great addition for an Everton midfield.
Hence, Everton should sign the Polish midfielder if they wish to see themselves in the Premier League next season.
