Why Moving To Barcelona On Loan Would Work Out Well For Luke Shaw

As per a report from Daily Mail, Barcelona are keen on completing a summer loan move for Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw. The report has gone on to claim that Shaw, who has struggled with injuries for a good majority of his time at Old Trafford, has fallen out of favour with manager Jose Mourinho, thus prompting the 23-year-old to scan his options ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

With Barcelona showing an interest, it might be tough for the player to say no. Shaw joined United with a lot of promise and potential from Southampton but unfortunately, he has failed to live up to his billing.

The Red Devils have faced troubles at left-back since Patrice Evra’s departure and Shaw’s injury put them in quite a tough situation. After using a couple of makeshift options, Mourinho eventually resorted to using winger Ashley Young in that role and he has done quite well for the club.

However, due to his age, Young cannot be considered as a long-term option and United are understandably looking for options.

That said, even if United do sign a new left-back this summer, it would be wise to let Shaw leave temporarily. Despite his many shortcomings, the player is good at what he does and retaining him could also provide a healthy scope for squad rotation in the seasons to come.

For now, it makes sense for him to leave the club and play in a new environment to hopefully regain his form and return to Old Trafford rejuvenated.

As far as Barcelona are concerned, Shaw could prove to be solid competition for Jordi Alba, who is the club’s undisputed left-back.

They also have Lucas Digne at hand but he has been in and out of injuries throughout the season, thus making it important for them to sign a new left-back. Since they already have Digne, it makes sense for them to sign a player like Shaw on loan, instead of a permanent move.

However, one must note that moving to Barcelona will not provide Shaw with the regular game time he so desperately craves for. That said, playing for a club like the Catalan giants could go a long way in restoring his confidence and once the spell gets completed, he can eventually return to United and fight for his place.
