Tottenham signing this lethal 23-year-old would help revive the weak attack

Why Moussa Dembele would be a fantastic signing for Tottenham

According to Goal (h/t The Metro), Tottenham are exploring the possibilities of signing Lyon forward Moussa Dembele.

Dembele, 23, proved himself as a lethal striker after making a move from Fulham to Scotland with Celtic. He scored a whopping 51 goals in 94 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions in his two years at the club.

Since moving to his home country with Lyon in the summer of 2018, Dembele has been outstanding for the French outfit.

As per the report, long-time admirers Chelsea had made Dembele one of their top targets and launched a bid for the goal-scorer, which was rejected by Lyon. Keeping that in mind, Tottenham must go all out for the Frenchman.

Spurs have risen to the top under Jose Mourinho after a horrible start to the season but their top-four hopes seem to have crashed following Kane’s injury against Southampton. He is set to undergo surgery and will be out of action until April. (Sky Sports)

Jose Mourinho’s side have 10 games between now and the start of April, including home games against Manchester City and Manchester United. They would be travelling to Stamford Bridge too by the end of February.

After deciding to sell Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen last summer, the North Londoners opted out from singing a striker. Kane led the line brilliantly so far and now that he is injured, they don’t have any like-for-like replacements even though wide-men Hueng Min-Son and Lucas Moura can play as lone strikers.

17-year-old Troy Parrott is the only option left but he is too young to lead the attack regularly.

Meanwhile, Dembele has been a prolific goal-scorer for nearly all the teams he has played for. This season, he has scored 10 goals in 13 Ligue 1 games.

The 23-year-old started in 5 of Lyon’s 6 Champions League group stage games and contributed with one assist, thus, helping the side fix a knockout date with Juventus in February.

The former Celtic man’s primary strength is his ability in front of the goal. Despite being young, he has mastered the art of being in the right place at the right time. He can find time and space in the opponent’s box and has the natural instincts of a goal-scorer.

The French U23 international is an out and out target man and has a great leaping ability, which can outperform the opponent defenders inside the penalty area. He could be effective alongside Spurs’ playmakers and help them with a healthy number of goals at any given time.

Verdict

Dembele has proven his mettle and at 23, it would be the right time for a step in the Premier League. His inclusion would also allow Kane to rest regularly and Mourinho can depend on him to lead the line in the absence of the England striker.

Therefore, with a bright future ahead of him, the striker must be on the books of Tottenham as early as this month.
