Why Missing Out On Adam Smith Is A Huge Blow For Tottenham

Having challenged for the title for two consecutive seasons, Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be on the rise in the coming seasons. But there has already been a lot of speculation regarding the futures of some of the players and Pochettino has to take measures to stop a mass exodus.

A number of star players have been linked with an exit this summer and one player who is sure to switch clubs this summer is English international Kyle Walker. The first choice right back for club and country, Walker is right up there with the best players, not just in England but also in Europe.

He is one of the most productive defenders in the league but his relationship with manager Mauricio Pochettino has scuppered, who left him out of the first team for the last few games of the season. He is now set to leave, with Manchester City being the likely destination while Chelsea and Manchester United maintain their interests too.

He will not go for cheap but Spurs will find it really hard to replace him in the first team next season. And it just got tougher for them as one of the best options to replace him has snubbed a move to the White Hart Lane.

The Spurs were looking at AFC Bournemouth star Adam Smith as a possible replacement for Walker but reports suggest that the player has squashed Spurs’ chances of buying him back and has snubbed them. It will be a huge blow for Pochettino as he will not have to look at expensive options to replace Walker.

Kieran Tripper has done a decent job in that position but he cannot play every single game next season and surely needs support. Pochettino wanted Smith, but it looks like the player isn’t too keen on arriving at Tottenham again.

The 26-year old English defender was the first choice right back for Eddie Howe in a season where they managed to avoid the drop. He picked up 5 assists and a goal, making 36 league appearances all season and is slowly establishing himself as one of the best in the league.

He was dependable and a constant presence at both ends of the field. He was at the Lane for six long years, which he spent on loan with 7 different clubs. It was Kyle Walker who drove him out of the Spurs’ squad and it is ironic that they want him back to replace the English international.

At his age, Smith has gathered enough experience and could be a star for the Cherries next season and it will come as a huge loss for the Spurs who will now have to splash the cash this summer.
