Everton raiding PL rivals to sign this 20-year-old starlet would reinforce the defence

Why Max Aarons would be a fantastic signing for Everton

According to MailOnline (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are interested in signing Norwich City defender Max Aarons.

Aarons, 20, came through the ranks of Luton Town and Norwich’s youth system. He broke into the first team last season and was a regular under Daniel Farke in the Championship, scoring 2 and assisting 6 across all competitions.

He was considered as one of the best full-backs in the second-tier last term and has performed with the same determination and confidence in the Premier League since the Canaries got promoted to the top-flight.

The youngster has been in good form of late and has caught the eyes of several teams in England including Arsenal and West ham, according to the report. Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund have also entered the race for Aarons, according to Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Meanwhile, the Toffees have sprung to life under their new manager after what was seemingly an abysmal season. Interim head Duncan Ferguson took over from sacked manager Marco Silva before Carlo Ancelotti was appointed in charge.

Since then it has been an upward path for Everton, except for the two defeats to bitter rivals Liverpool in two different competitions. It is clear that the Italian tactician must rebuild the squad by signing new players for various positions.

One of the key areas that need an improvisation is the right-back position, where club captain Seamus Coleman and Monaco loanee Djibril Sidibe are the only options available. Coleman (31) is nearing the twilight of his career and he hasn’t made much of an impact on the team.

Whereas, Djibril Sidibe’s future at Goodison Park is uncertain. Therefore, Ancelotti has to address the issue immediately before the start of the next season or else it could get worse, without any in-form player available.

In that regard, Norwich’s Max Aarons would be an ideal solution to their right-back woes and the fact that he is just 20 should convince Everton’s hierarchy to go for him as early as possible.

The England U21 international has featured in 19 league games so far but is yet to contribute with a goal or an assist. Despite Norwich being at the bottom, Aarons has completely justified his selection with some outstanding displays, be it defending or in offensive situations.

He is a dynamic player and is quick with the ball at his feet while moving forward while being adept at cutting inside as well as providing the width out wide. He has been busy up and down the right flank in all of Norwich’s games.

Though Aarons is not well built in stature, he is defensively strong in a 1v1 situation and is improving in his position. The video below shows the youngster’s quality and what he would bring to Goodison Park if a deal goes through.

Verdict

At 20, Aarons would be the perfect replacement for Coleman and with experience, he could develop himself under Ancelotti’s tutelage.

Therefore, the Toffees must get ahead of his admirers and secure his services for the next season.
