West Ham allowing Moyes to reunite with this 12-goal star would be simply fantastic

Why Marouane Fellaini would be an excellent signing for West Ham

According to Sky Sports, West Ham are interested in signing Marouane Fellaini, as manager David Moyes looks to reunite with the midfielder.

Fellaini, 32, who is a Standard Liege youth product, made in his mark in the Premier League with Everton. After five years with the Merseyside club, the Belgian was signed by Moyes for Manchester United in 2013 for £27.5m.

Though he was not highly successful at Old Trafford, he was the one who acted as a super-sub on several occasions for the Red Devils. Then-manager Jose Mourinho made use of him in bit-part roles and he saved United from the hands of defeat several times.

The Belgian left to China with Shandon Luneng last winter and proved to be more than good for the Chines outfit. In 34 appearances for the club, he scored 12 goals and provided 5 assists helping them to a 5th place finish in 2019.

Not to forget, he was a key member in Shandong Luneng’s run to the final of the Chinese FA Cup, where they eventually lost in the second leg.

And his good performances have caught the eye of West Ham and manager David Moyes, who insisted that he is in the transfer market looking for players who have Premier League experience, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the Hammers have endured an awful start to the season as they have been brutally exposed with inconsistency in several key areas.

Their lacklustre performance and low standards cost Manuel Pellegrini his job. The return of Moyes to the club started in a convincing way as they thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 on New Year’s Day.

However, the Scottish tactician has still lots of work to do in the team and the midfield conundrum has been a huge concern this season. Declan Rice has not enjoyed a successful time this term but has been a regular for the side since the start. And he has lacked support from other members.

Mark Noble’s energy has been consistent on the field but due to his age, he may not be able to continue with the same determination. Jack Wilshere has been on the sidelines for the majority of the season and Carlos Sanchez looks to be out of place and isn’t in the shape to compete at a higher level.

With such limitations in the central area, the manager has to make reinforcements at the earliest and Marouane Fellaini could be the solution to their midfield woes.

The 32-year-old is a central midfielder by trade but has played in every position between the defensive midfield and the attacking line. He is known for his ability to disrupt the opponent’s attacks with his timely interceptions. He can also get forward and help the team in their attack, which proves his role as a box-to-box midfielder.

The tall and lanky Belgium international has proved his worth in the final third outperforming the opponents in heading situations. And with that, he has scored a handful of goals. The video below shows his qualities on both ends of the pitch and what he could bring to a struggling West Ham side.

Verdict

Although Fellaini is 32, he seems to be better than most of West Ham’s present bunch of central players. His Premier League experience would complement players like Rice and Nobel in the middle of the park.

Therefore, West Ham should lure the former Manchester United man to the London Stadium.
