Marko Pjaca
Back in February, Italian newspaper Corriere Fiorentino (h/t The Chronicle) claimed that Newcastle had made a move for Juventus winger Marko Pjaca during the final days of the January transfer window.
Marko Pjaca, 24, spent the last season on loan at Fiorentina under Stefano Pioli. The Croatian showed signs of inconsistency and lack of form at La Viola. He could never nail down a spot in the first-team and often had to come off the bench often. His fitness was also a concern before the forward ruptured his ACL again.
The Zagreb-born star has recently returned from injury, finding himself on the bench in Juventus’ last three Serie A games.
With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa, Gonzalo Higuain and Federico Bernardeschi ahead of him in the pecking order, Pjaca is certain to struggle for game time at Juventus this season as well.
Thus, it would make sense for him to go out on loan during the January transfer window, having attained full fitness. Newcastle United must rekindle their interest in Pjaca to strengthen their attacking options.
The Toon Army are well clear of the relegation zone after a good run of results. With a little over half of the season left to play, Bruce must now aim to solidify his team’s place in the top half of the table.
Newcastle have struggled to score goals this season, despite the acquisition of Joelinton and Andy Carroll from Hoffenheim and West Ham respectively in the summer. And even though Miguel Almiron has looked lively in recent games, the Magpies would do a brilliant job by signing Marko Pjaca on a six-month loan.
Pjaca’s career has stagnated somewhat since joining Juventus in 2016, with injuries playing a massive role. However, he needs a fresh start and a move to Newcastle could be of great help. A left-winger by trade, the Croatia international can play in different roles across the front line.
He is agile and a fine dribbler, making him dangerous in 1v1 situations. Pjaca is clearly an exciting player and with Newcastle somewhat lacking in genuine flair down the flanks, the 24-year-old would be a smart addition.
