Why Marcus Tavernier to Newcastle United would be a good move

According to Daily Mail, Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in Middlesbrough winger Marcus Tavernier, with Steve Bruce keen to bolster his squad this month.

Newcastle United, though, aren’t the only Premier League side looking to snap Tavernier away from the Riverside Stadium this month, with Aston Villa also in pursuit for the 20-year-old, according to the report.

Tavernier has caught the eyes of the Premier League teams with his two goals and two assists this season and is continuing to develop under Jonathan Woodgate. He has 18 months left on his deal, thus prompting clubs to take advantage with a January bid.

Middlesbrough currently find themselves 16^th in the Championship but despite Boro on the back foot, the youngster has been in scintillating form after making it through the club’s youth ranks.

Steve Bruce’s side have failed to capitalize on the momentum they received in the past few months. Therefore, the manager has to make adjustments by roping in a player who can lift their spirits.

In that case, Marcus Tavernier could prove to be more than just a backup for the team if Newcastle manage to pull off a deal for the exciting youngster.

The 20-year-old started from the bench initially this season but has featured for the full time in his last 10 games. He has established himself as one of the most promising youngsters in the country with his burst of pace and excellent control on the ball.

Predominantly a left-winger, Tavernier has been deployed in various positions by Woodgate this term, according to Transfermarkt. His versatility would help Steve Bruce add a different dimension to his team’s attacking system.

The Leeds-born talent would be a good cover for the injured Saint-Maximin and playing alongside Joelinton and Almiron. His composure and movement off the ball are excellent as well, according to Daily Mail.
