According to reports from the Mirror, Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Sporting Lisbon youngster Matheus Pereira, who currently plies his trade with West Bromwich Albion on loan.
The Brazilian moved to Portugal at the age of 14 and joined Sporting Lisbon’s youth system. After making few appearances for the first team, he went on loan to FC Nuremberg in the summer of 2018.
Pereira has made an excellent start to his English football career with West Brom. Despite being on loan, the youngster has been lighting up the Hawthorns.
Currently, at the top of the Championship table, West Brom are riding high due to Pereira’s success and influence. He has been a solid advantage for the team this season, playing as a right-winger. In fact, he has already registered 3 goals and 9 assists in 14 appearances.
Although he is a right-winger by trade, he has also played on the left side and as an attacking midfielder. West Brom’s attack has been impressive this season, with the likes of Grady Diangana, Hal Robson-Kanu and Matt Phillips working wonders in nearly every game.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have only one established right-winger in Jesse Lingard, who seems to have lost his form and has started from the bench for the most part of the season. As a result, Solskjaer has started Daniel James and Marcus Rashford on the flanks.
Pereira’s move to United would provide Solskjaer with an extra option to lead the attack. While James seems to drain out of energy towards the end of most games, Pereira is capable of easily fitting into the slot.
According to whoscored, Pereira has registered an average of 1.9 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game this season, thus justifying his development.
Pereira’s loan deal has an option for West Brom to sign the player for £8.25m. However, Man United must not worry about it.
The 23-year-old is a bright prospect and United can build a team around him and the other youngsters. Thus, Manchester United should make a swift move for Pereira.
