Man United beating Barcelona to land this 21-year-old Serbian hotshot would be a clever move by the club

Manchester United opinion: Red Devils must win the race for Luka Jovic

The Metro have reported that Manchester United have made contact over on-loan Benfica striker Luka Jovic. The 21-year-old forward has been having the season of his life in the Bundesliga, powering Eintracht Frankfurt to a respectable 5th spot.

The Serbian striker has netted 22 goals this season, with 15 in the German top-tier. That includes a sensational five-goal haul against Fortuna Dusseldorf, and seven assists in all competitions, with Barcelona making him their top Luis Suarez replacement (Guardian).

For Manchester United, it’s a move that can only do that club a lot of good. Incredible and unstoppable at the moment, Jovic has showcased just how good he can be when on song. This has outdone even Romelu Lukaku, with the burly Belgian’s best tally being the 26 goals and 9 assists he produced last season.

He is not just a goalscoring forward, but Jovic, like Roberto Firmino and even Sergio Aguero this season, has been used as a false nine. That’s where the 21-year-old has flourished the most and more importantly, plays at his lethal and destructive best.

His goalscoring has been on show this season but his creative ability isn’t something to be ignored, with Jovic producing seven assists and creating an average of 0.8 key passes a game.

That is much higher than Romelu Lukaku’s 0.6 per game. Furthermore, Jovic’s work rate both on and off the ball are second to none, and his spatial awareness is simply incredible.

The 21-year-old has a knack for finding himself in spaces in the box. Jovic averages just 3 shots per game, which shows just how lethal he is. The Red Devils had been linked with a move for Luka Jovic’s striker partner Ante Rebic (Calciomercato).

While a move failed to materialise, losing Luka Jovic to Barcelona will be a blow. The Serbian has an incredibly bright future.

Conclusion

If the young forward continues scoring goals the way he is doing right now, he would be able to make an impact at any club in the world. Man United shouldn’t hesitate to make a move for the Serbian hotshot.

Otherwise, they’ll end up pulling out their hair and regret another move for a world class star that should have happened.
