Manchester United Opinion – United should sign Joao Cancelo in the summer
According to a report in Metro, Juventus man Joao Cancelo will be one of the top targets for Manchester United in the summer.
Former United manager Jose Mourinho tried to sign the Portuguese from Valencia last summer, but he joined the Old Lady instead. Since then, he has done well in Italy and the Red Devils haven’t taken an eye off him (h/t Metro).
Juventus paid £36m to sign the 24-year-old and the Portuguese international has done well but is still adjusting to the demands of the club (h/t Metro).
As per the report, United have kept their interest in the player even though they failed to sign him last summer, but convincing the Italian champions to sell the 24-year-old could be a tricky part.
Here’s why the Old Trafford club must do whatever it takes to sign Joao Cancelo ahead of next season:
The versatility of Cancelo could be handy for the Red Devils
Predominantly a right-back, the Portuguese international can operate as a wing-back or as an attacking winger. For Juventus this season, he has played as a right-back, right winger and also as a left-back once.
Hence, his versatility could be a positive addition to any squad, let alone of Manchester United. The Red Devils have Ashley Young who is a starting at right-back for them, but he is 33 years old now and may not be able to maintain the intensity in the future.
Antonio Valencia looks set to leave Old Trafford come the end of this season, while Diogo Dalot is still a young player who is learning his trade. Furthermore, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has used either Jesse Lingard or Romelu Lukaku on the right wing.
Hence, it makes sense from the Red Devils’ viewpoint that they sign a player of Cancelo’s quality and flexibility.

Conclusion
Everything points towards why United and Mourinho wanted the Portuguese international last summer. Those facts are quite obvious to see as well.
Therefore, the club must make sure that they convince Juventus to sell the player in the summer. The best way to go about doing that is by offering a good deal.
