Why Manchester United should sign Boubakary Soumane
According to a report in Daily Mail, Manchester United are planning to make a move for young Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumane, should they lose Paul Pogba in the near future.
The 20-year-old, whose playing style has been compared to the French World Cup winner (h/t Daily Mail), has impressed many in the Ligue 1 this season.
With his contract expiring next summer, many clubs around Europe are tracking his progress for a possible move. United are also in the race. (h/t Daily Mail)
The France U21 international has been a regular starter for Lille both in the league and the Champions League. Fair to say, he has played well and deserves the attention.
Here’s why Manchester United should sign before any other club::
Soumare would add dynamism to a static midfield
Boubakary Soumare is a talented young midfield player, who prefers to play as a holding midfielder but is capable of playing the box-to-box role in central midfield.
He is a Paris-Saint Germain academy product and played for their youth team before moving on a free transfer to Lille in the summer of 2017. He has also represented France in all of the youth levels, going up to the U21s.
In terms of his attributes, the 20-year-old is a fantastic passer of the ball from deeper positions. He is physically strong on/off the ball and reads the game well from a defensive viewpoint.
Furthermore, he can burst past players in the midfield with the ball and does have a good long-range shot in him.
If United manage to sign him, they would have a player who adds dynamism to their static midfield structure.
