Why Manchester United Should Sell This €31.1 Million Star This January – A Good Move For Both The Parties

Morgan Schneiderlin

Manchester United’s new manager Jose Mourinho is one of the most ruthless managers in world football. His is not afraid to axe players who he thinks will not fit in his team and does not think twice before freezing them if they are unsold. Iker Casillas, Kaka and Bastian Schweinsteiger are just one of those few names that Mourinho has ignored at different clubs but one player who is not quite in that league is French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. The 26-year, who is rated at €31.1 Million, old joined Manchester United and was touted as the replacement for Michael Carrick in the midfield. The English midfielder who is now 35, is not getting any younger and Mourinho now has a big decision to make.

With reports linking Schneiderlin with an exit in January, there are a number of clubs that would want to steal him away but should Manchester United get rid of their man? At 26, the French star is entering his prime as a football player and needs regular game time to stay on the top of his game. So let’s take a look if he is good enough to be a first-team player at Old Trafford.

The former Southampton man was among the best midfielders in the Premier League for three consecutive years at the St Mary’s. His consistency earned him a place at Old Trafford but ever since, it has all been bad for the midfielder. Starting his career with a few injuries under Louis van Gaal, Schneiderlin did not settle into the team until late into the season and though he gathered some form, it was not enough for Jose Mourinho, the new manager to give him a place in the side.

Morgan Schneiderlin has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United

Schneiderlin has played a whole of 6 minutes of Premier League football this season and is in desperate need of a way out. At the Old Trafford, the likes of Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini are used in a similar defensive position (the least said about Pogba and his defense the better). This might be the last year for the Englishman while Fellaini is far from a potent defensive midfielder. Herrera has done a decent job in the midfield but Schneiderlin adds a bit of a mettle when he plays. Though not the best passer, Schneiderlin is an athletic midfielder who loves to stay back and help his side in defense. His strengths are his patience and concentration something that Mourinho likes in his players.

However, ever since he moved to Old Trafford, Mourinho has not really taken a liking to the French international who has never seriously been in his plan. The manager will surely spend in the next two transfer windows but letting go of a midfielder with great potential might be suicidal. Depth in the squad is hardly an issue with a number of players unable to get a place in the starting lineup making this decision entirely a matter of choice for the manager.

But if the staff and the manager have seen something genuinely wrong in his game, (that is clearly not evident during games) and Schneiderlin really has no space under Mourinho, it is better for both parties to part ways.

Do you think Manchester United should keep hold of the 26-year old till the end of the season at least?
