Man United signing this 28-year-old world-class French star would turn them into one of the best in Europe – opinion

Manchester United Opinion – Red Devils must go for Antoine Griezmann

According to a report in ESPN, Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has offered himself to big European clubs for a move this summer. The French World Cup winner, has alerted Barcelona with this update as well, but the Catalans are not considering a deal for him (h/t ESPN).

The Catalans wanted the star man last summer, but he opted to stay in Madrid. However, the 28-year-old is getting increasingly frustrated at the Wanda Metropolitano (h/t ESPN).

He is ready to take a pay cut and revealed that he was looking for a move even before Atleti were eliminated by Juventus in the Champions League (h/t ESPN).

With this situation in mind, here’s why Manchester United should delve into this and make a move for Griezmann in the summer:

United would need more quality up top to challenge

United have massively improved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but if the previous two games are to be taken as evidence, then it is pretty clear why this team is not challenging for the title along with Manchester City and Liverpool.

While the defensive structure needs some re-hauling in the summer, the forward line also requires an injection of quality to really become a proper team worth going for the league and other competitions simultaneously.

The Red Devils have Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard as a pacy front-line but beyond that, the likes of Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez don’t contribute much.

Romelu Lukaku has been in good form lately, though we have come to witness many times that the Belgian international still lacks a cutting edge that a striker of Manchester United’s stature thrives on.

Hence, it would make sense for them to sign a special player in Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman is just a world-class player who can lead the line, can operate as a number 10 or play on the wings.

With United being a good counter-attacking team, the 28-year-old would relate that to the playing style of Atletico Madrid and France, and potentially succeed at Old Trafford.

Conclusion

The Red Devils could have a big purse to spend in the summer transfer window. Getting more quality in the forward line would only enhance their chances of challenging for the title.

Hence, spilling the cash on a World Cup winner won’t be a bad idea by any stretch of imagination as it would turn them into one of the best sides in Europe.
