According to a report from the Sun, Manchester United had their scouts present to watch Kosovo striker Vedat Muriqi in action against England last week.
He was on the score sheet in the thrilling 5-3 win for England as he netted from the penalty spot – his seventh international goal in 22 appearances for his country.
It continued a fine run of form for Vedat Muriqi who also scored against Czech Republic in the previous fixture and has scored twice in three league games since arriving at Fenerbahce from Çaykur Rizespor over the summer. His impressive performances have also caught the eye of Tottenham, the report adds.
The 25-year-old centre-forward is under contract with the Turkish club until 2023, but Manchester United must beat Tottenham to his signature during the winter transfer window.
United weren’t able to replace Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez during the summer transfer window that left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack thin on paper.
Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and teenage prodigy Mason Greenwood are the only options upfront currently available to Solskjaer. But neither Martial nor Rashford have proven themselves as prolific goalscorers, while one simply cannot expect Greenwood to deliver 15-20 goals in his potential breakthrough campaign.
Thus, it’s a no-brainer for Solskjaer to add a prolific goalscorer to his forward line when the transfer window reopens in a few months’ time. And Vedat Muriqi would be a good fit for the Red Devils.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Muriqi is the type of striker who likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender, making smart and intelligent runs into the box for creative players to pick him out to increase his chances of scoring goals.
The Kosovo international’s best attribute is his ability to hold the ball up and bring his teammates into the game. Very strong in the air, he comes out on top almost in every aerial duel.

In a way, the Fenerbahce star is the perfect striker for a 4-2-3-1 formation, where he can directly link up with the number 10, make runs for wingers to find him in the box and score goals for the team.
With pacey forwards that United have in form of Rashford, Martial and James, Muriqi should love playing in front of them. The 25-year-old striker is not only a goalscorer but also helps his team defensively when required.
Manchester United can’t have another season like the last one and must strive harder to get into the top four. And signing Muriqi could prove to become a factor in being the difference between Champions League football and having none for Solskjaer’s side.
