Man United beating Arsenal to sign this promising shot-stopper would sort out their future after De Gea

Manchester United opinion: Should Solskjaer go for Coniah Boyce-Clarke?

English news outlet Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Reading star Coniah Boyce-Clarke. The youngster has been very impressive for the club’s U23 side and that has seen the two Premier League sides take a keen interest.

He’s already made a handful of appearances for the club. The young goalkeeper has multiple offers on the table, which includes a new contract from Reading but it’s Manchester United who have to win the race.

While they do have David De Gea, Lee Grant and Sergio Romero, they need some young blood on their team-sheet. However, with Dean Henderson looking to leave the club, they need some young blood.

The 21-year-old has been on loan at Sheffield United this season and has already revealed his intention to re-join the side with their return to the Premier League confirmed. That leaves Manchester United with a rather large gap in their team.

With superstar De Gea rather heavily linked with a move to PSG (ESPN), a move for Coniah Boyce-Clarke would be perfect, with the 6’3” goalkeeper already showing world-class potential.

That combined with his golden glove win at last year’s Val De Marne tournament and the fact that he is only 16 years old makes him a perfect choice. With time, he’ll only improve further.

United are one of the many sides interested and even marked that in December 2018. But no move materialised in the winter window. That needs to change in the summer, especially with Arsenal also now in the race.

A rather tall and imposing figure, the 16-year-old makes great use of it when faced with danger. Despite being so tall, the 16-year-old is very quick off the mark with rather incredible reflexes.

That does make him a great prospect and the fact that he’s brilliant with his feet as well makes him the modern shot-stopper. However, like most youth prospects, Coniah Boyce-Clarke needs to improve his bravery in the box.

While he does come out to collect crosses, he often shies away from a battle with a striker or a defender, and that has proved to be a small problem. Yet, with time and experience, that should change.

Conclusion

He may not be the world-class replacement for David De Gea that Manchester United may need but Coniah Boyce-Clarke is a top starlet. He has the potential to do great things for the club and that is something they need to take full advantage of.
