Why Manchester United Should Buy This 50 Million Bundesliga Pair

Manchester United want to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender according to reports from Sunday Mirror and other UK dailies.

Matt Hummels on Manchester United radar

Mats Hummels – German International and reigning champions Borussia Dortmund’s defender who is only 23 years old is valued at around 25 million by his club and rightly so. The young defender is having a great time with both his national team and Dortmund. He is a versatile player with the correct amount of pace required for a defender and has almost a decade’s time left in him for high quality playing time, a perfect combo what Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for.

United defense is a subject to question mark with veteran defender Vidic set back in the injury beds most often, with a in consistent Evans and an ageing Ferdinand United’s defense does not look good and has to have one solid player to help others look better. Hummels signed a new five-year deal with Dortmund in the summer, which will make it difficult for United to bring down the 25 million valuation by Dortmund, however the player has certain get-out clauses, and is interested in playing for the Premier League which will make the move a potential reality.

“To play in a new country would be flattering,” admitted Hummels. “I’ve had offers before from abroad and I have to admit that one of them was very interesting. But the timing was not right for me. When you are at a club like Dortmund you just don’t move to any club and there are only four clubs in Europe I would consider.”

Lars Bender another United target

Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender is the other player on United’s radar. Sir Alex Ferguson has sent his chief scout Martin Ferguson to watch the pair in action for Germany in their goalless international friendly against Netherlands last week and after receiving some positive feedback from his scouts-men, Ferguson is ready to step up his interest in both players in January.

The Midfield is one very important area where United have to strengthen. With a world class attacking options Manchester United have, it does not have a midfield that equals it. Carrick is not dependable week in and week out and Anderson has been ever so poor this season and Scholes and Giggs cannot be relied upon still. Youngster Cleverley has been a good find by United but he alone cannot do wonders in the middle of the park. Bender extended his stay at Leverkusen until 2017 last March, which will take another 25 million from United’s bank. However the 50 million will do justice for United to bring in trophy number 20 to Old Trafford.
