Why Manchester United must reignite their interest in Fabian Ruiz
According to The Athletic (h/t Metro), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prioritizing three new Manchester United signings in the January Transfer window.
United were busy during the last summer and made three useful signings to strengthen their squad. After the departure of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling to Italy, Solskjaer managed to bring in Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka to make their defence line stronger, whereas Daniel James has given life to United’s dull attack.
Having made huge investments last summer, United should continue with the same in January to strengthen other areas.
However, the report suggests that Solskjaer is prioritizing the midfield after remarkably strengthening the backline.
Last month, The Sun reported that United were interested in Napoli star Fabian Ruiz, who is also being linked with a move to Real Madrid and Manchester City.
The midfielder joined the Real Betis youth system in 2014 and came through their ranks. In the summer of 2018, Carlo Ancelloti signed him for the Italian giants.
With Ruiz becoming a key component in Napoli’s squad, the time is right for United to try their luck in signing the potential future star.
The 23-year-old’s loan spell at Elche in 2017 saw him mature into a better player and when he returned to his parent club at that time, many big European teams were vying for his signature but he joined Napoli.
In his first season at Naples, Ruiz scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in 27 Serie A games. This season, he has developed into a complete player, who has taken over in the right fashion from Napoli legend Marek Hamsik, who moved to China with Dalian Yifang.
Predominantly a central midfielder, the Spain international is also adept at playing anywhere on the left. He has shown great character while being deployed in a No:10 role which can be of utmost help to Anthony Martial. His presence in the middle of the park would add quality to United’s attack.
Ruiz has consistently impressed with his tremendous technique and intelligent on the field. Though it may take time for him to settle in the English conditions, Ruiz might end up being the game-changer in Solskjaer’s squad.
- Why Man United should reignite their interest in Jacob Bruun Larsen
- Why a new deal for McTominay is a right step by Manchester United
- Why Saul Niguez would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United
At 23, Ruiz must take the decision to succeed at a higher level and at Old Trafford, he can showcase his skills in the toughest league.
Therefore, to add more quality to their midfield, United must revive their interest in the dynamic prospect and leave no stone unturned in pursuing him.
