Man Utd would make things worse by exchanging Pogba for this 2014 World Cup hero – Agreed?

Why Manchester United must avoid Paul Pogba-James Rodriguez swap

According to Spanish outlet El Desmarque (h/t The Metro), Real Madrid would be willing to offer James Rodriguez in exchange for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

James Rodriguez, 28, remains a big-name player but has been struck at Real Madrid since falling out of favour under Zinedine Zidane.

The Colombian playmaker returned to Madrid in the summer following a slightly underwhelming two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich and has since completed just 90 minutes in two of 11 La Liga matches so far this season.

The report (h/t The Metro) claims Real remain interested in Paul Pogba and view James Rodriguez as a potential makeweight to sign the Manchester United star. That being said, should Manchester United accept such an offer?

Pogba was heavily linked with a move to Real during the summer and failed in an attempt to force through a switch to the Bernabeu after publicly declaring he wanted to leave Manchester United.

With a mammoth £180million asking price on his head, Pogba continues to be one of the most important players at the club.

Since the end of September, the French midfielder has been out with an injury to his right ankle. He has been limited to just six appearances so far this season and United have undoubtedly missed his presence in the midfield.

If Pogba truly is unhappy at United, there is no point retaining him. The Frenchman can be one of the best on his day but United fans haven’t seen consistency in his performances.

Yet, the Red Devils must not agree to a swap deal that would see James Rodriguez arrive at Old Trafford, regardless of their creativity problems.

Rodriguez has struggled to live up to his price-tag in his five years at Real. At the age of 28, the Colombian, who won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup, seems like he is already past his best years and might struggle to cope with the Premier League demands.

The former FC Porto star’s stock has gone down massively in the last few years and United would be better off without signing him.

Verdict

It would make sense if United sell Pogba in the summer of 2020 and reinvest the money into reinforcing different areas of the pitch. The idea of swapping the Frenchman with Real’s Rodriguez must be simply avoided.
