Why Manchester United Must Act Fast And Secure The Signing Of This 32 Goal French Forward

Should Manchester United go for Moussa Dembele?

Moussa Dembele has been a sensation in the Scottish Premiership ever since he joined Celtic FC last season. The 21-year-old was the top goal scorer for Celtic last season with 32 goals in all competitions and had impressive Champions League outing with 5 goals in 12 appearances.

His recent exploits have certainly grabbed some eyes in Europe with Manchester United reportedly keen on signing the French striker. There were several reports in the media that the Red Devils held discussions with the 21-year-old regarding a potential switch to Old Trafford in the summer.

However, having signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton, the interest in Dembele radically decreased. Yet, the Frenchman is once again in the news, with Mourinho reportedly targeting the youngster for a summer switch to Old Trafford, according to L’Equipe as reported by (h/t Express).

Dembele first arrived on the scene with Fulham in the Premier League back in 2013 and after the club’s relegation to the Championship, he moved to Celtic in 2016. Ex- Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers holds the young Frenchman in high regards and has stated that he has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world. Due to his style of play, Rodgers compared Dembele to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba in 2016.

“I’ve seen a big development in him as a young man and as a player and I really expect him over the coming years to develop and improve and go on to become one of the world’s best strikers,” Rodgers was quoted in a report by 90min.com.

Taking Lukaku’s recent form into account, Manchester United just might need Dembele in the summer, with the big Belgian underperforming against ‘top-6’ opposition in the Premier League. Even Zlatan Ibrahimovic is entering his late 30’s and is unlikely to keep up with others, following his return to the team recently from a long injury lay-off.

While Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are exciting forwards, they aren’t exactly natural strikers; however, the latter has been deemed to play centrally in the future. Dembele is making giant strides in Scotland and a move to Manchester United will be a significant boost in his development as a player.

With players like Juan Mata and Paul Pogba playing alongside him, Dembele can reach his maximum potential in pretty quick time. Manchester United’s current squad is arguably weaker than what one might think and it won’t be long before Mourinho feels the plight of injuries.

The Red Devils must act fast and sign the talented French striker next summer before other elite European clubs come calling.
