Manchester United Opinion – Red Devils should offload Fosu-Mensah

According to a report in Dutch outlet Telegraaf, Dutch giants Ajax are taking a close look at Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah for a summer swoop.

This is in relation to the fact that they expect star man Matthijs De Ligt to leave Amsterdam in a few months’ time. Hence, a replacement is required in the defence department. (Telegraaf)

Fosu-Mensah, 21, is under an uninspiring loan spell at Fulham, and hasn’t featured a lot for Claudio Ranieri’s struggling team. The report claims that the Ajax Director of Football, Marc Overmars, has made unofficial contact with the Dutchman to try and engineer a move in the summer window. (Telegraaf)

Here’s why United should offload the player and use that money to finance a move for another signing ahead of the start of next season:

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Fosu-Mensah has struggled to impact at Old Trafford

Timothy Fosu-Mensah arrived at the Manchester United in 2014 from the Ajax academy. Upon his arrival, the now 21-year-old was considered as a shining star for the future.

However, things haven’t quite turned out that way for the Dutchman. Jose Mourinho sent him on loan to Crystal Palace last season, where he played 21 league games but didn’t manage to impact much.

The versatile defender was sent to the newly-promoted Fulham last summer and hasn’t done enough to attract the attention of many around Manchester.

Hence, it makes sense from the Red Devils’ viewpoint to sell the player in the summer and enhance their bank balance for spending on others.

From Fosu-Mensah’s perspective, game time hasn’t come easy for him in England. Maybe, the best thing would be to go back to his old club and start his career there to show the qualities he possesses.

The 21-year-old would be a great signing for Ajax as he can play at fullback, centre-back and defensive midfield.

Conclusion

This move would suit all parties. United would gain some money by selling the player, while the latter can kick-start his career in his native club.
