Why Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling Should Ignore Real Madrid Interest And Stay Put At The Etihad Stadium

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in an audacious summer swoop for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling and are understood to be closely monitoring his progress. Los Blancos have not had the best of seasons this time and Zinedine Zidane is focusing on bringing in some solid new players over the summer. Although they have been linked with quite a few names, Sterling appears to be the latest candidate on their hit list for the upcoming transfer window.

Sterling is set to enter the last two years of his contract with the Premier League champions-elect and they are yet to offer him a new deal. Based on the way he has performed for them this season, City must extend his contract but as of now, there has been no news on that front.

Hence, it is the right time for Real to capitalise. The chance to play at the very top-level for Real Madrid will undoubtedly seem enticing to the 23-year-old, who has miraculously turned his career around under Pep Guardiola’s guidance.

However, in the seasons to come, they will need a reliable attacker like Sterling to truly build a legacy. That said, they must hold on to him at all costs and prevent him from joining a European rival.

Furthermore, if the £72m-rated Sterling does join Real Madrid, he will probably not get to enjoy regular game time. The Spanish giants are filled to the brim with top-class attackers and it will be tough for Sterling to grab a regular starting spot.
