Manchester City opinion: Guardiola must sign Toni Kroos

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, Manchester City are preparing a €60million bid for Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos.

The German, according to reports from Spain, has also been linked with a move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who are prepared to pay a staggering €80million for his services.

Pep Guardiola’s side will have to step up in the pursuit of the German World Cup winner as they look to find a replacement for the ageing Fernandinho.

Kroos would be an ideal option for Manchester City and would fit in brilliantly under Pep Guardiola, thanks to his incredible range of passing.

The Real Madrid man previously played 51 games under Guardiola during the duo’s time at Bayern Munich and would know what the manager expects from him.

His experience would be of massive value to the Sky Blues and a midfield with David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne and the German would be an exciting prospect.

His composure on the ball and the ability to dictate the tempo of the game suits City’s style of play. The 29-year-old’s ability to shoot from distance will be important to the City squad and will fill in the void created when Fernandinho does leave.

Kroos, like most of his fellow Real Madrid teammates, has had a poor season so far in the La Liga, having failed to score a single goal all season in the La Liga.

The former Bayern Munich man had a disastrous FIFA World Cup last summer where his side were knocked out in the group stages of the tournament.

Despite all that, Kroos is a master midfielder capable of changing the whole game on his own with a killer pass. The 29-year-old was an integral part of Real Madrid’s hattrick of Champions Leagues and also in Germany’s 2014 World Cup campaign.

Conclusion

Kroos is statistically an upgrade over Ilkay Gundogan, averaging more key passes, more dribbles, more long balls and a superior passing accuracy per game so far this season.

The German’versatility of playing anywhere across the midfield will give Guardiola a wide range of options in the middle of the park and he is a player who he should make a move for in the summer. (WhoScored)
