Why Manchester City must keep hold of Leroy Sane

According to The Mirror, Leroy Sane is set to stay at Manchester City until the end of this season but will still join Bayern Munich in the summer.

Sane, 23, is currently in his fourth season at the club after joining from Schalke in 2016. He was a key member of City’s last two Premier League titles and, in the process, he established himself as one of the best wingers in Europe.

Earlier this season, he ruptured his ligament against Liverpool in the Community Shield fixture and since then, he has been on the sidelines. When everything was going fine for the youngster, his injury put him out of action and his loss has cost Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Germany international has scored 39 goals and further set up 45 more for his teammates in 134 appearances for City.

He has been one of the best signings by the Spaniard over the past few years and still has a lot more to offer to the Etihad faithful. Thus, City must make sure Sane stays with them.

Guardiola has only one player available at his disposal to attack from the left side of the pitch – and that is Raheem Sterling.

Sterling has been in excellent form under the former Barcelona manager and has done well so far without any proper back-up.

This could turn into a big issue for the manager next season if Sane leaves and nothing can be told about Sterling’s consistency. Any injury or dip in form can hurt the Cityzens if they allow Sane to leave.

The 23-year-old has proven his worth for both club and country in the last two years. He has played 21 international games since making his debut in 2015 for Germany. At a young age, he has made himself known across Europe with his fine dribbling skills and his pace can beat any defender.

He has been a useful asset so far and his return from injury would be a boost to the team.

Verdict

The youngster has the ability to win games on his own and with just another year left in his contract with the club, City must act quickly and offer a new deal. Therefore, by all means, Sane must be retained by the Cityzens.
