Why Manchester City Must Avoid A Move For Real Madrid Star Isco

As per a report from The Sun, Manchester City are willing to shell out a whopping £75million to sign Isco from Real Madrid this summer. The report also claims that the Spaniard believes his playing time could be restricted under Zidane.

With City harbouring an interest, it would be tempting for Isco to join Pep Guardiola in the Premier League. However, do City need a player like Isco?

Straight off the bat, the Sky Blues have a plethora of creative attackers at hand. Guardiola has the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.

This season, De Bruyne has created a whopping 95 chances in 30 Premier League appearances, whereas Silva has created 49 in 24 games. In comparison, Isco has created 45 in 25 games and has scored fewer goals as well.

Moreover, they are well-stocked in terms of having backups as well. Players like Ilkay Gundogan, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Bernardo Silva are just waiting for opportunities to impress the manager.

Isco

With such talented individuals at Guardiola’s disposal, it is tough to see where Isco would fit in. If Isco is in search of regular game time, City might not be the ideal destination.

Guardiola has been praised time and again for the way he has built the squad around youngsters and although Isco would fit into that mould due to his age, he will be back to square one. His attacking instincts, pace and goalscoring abilities can work wonders for the club but the fact is that they already have too many players like him.

Isco is far too talented to be purchased for merely boosting the squad depth. So it might be best for Man City to strengthen other positions instead of spending money on an area which is already powerful.

Having occupied the numero uno spot throughout the season so far, it is just a matter of time before they lift the coveted Premier League trophy. However, that will bring its own set of challenges and the club must be prepared to face them next campaign, for which they will require added depth in other areas.

Given Isco’s talent and potential, he can be a true gamechanger for a lot of other clubs and it is important that he prioritises regular game time over money.
